Dr. Virgínia Pólvora

Respect for the physical and psychological well-being of patients. Ethics and commitment as principles, by means of constant research, innovation and updating.

This is the life of Virgínia Pólvora; this is her career. She is a plastic surgeon who graduated in Medicine at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and who completed her residency in General Surgery at the Clinical Hospital of Porto Alegre, specializing in Plastic Surgery and Microsurgery at Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Porto Alegre, working alongside Dr. Roberto Correa Chem.

She worked at the Reconstructive Plastic Surgery of the Trauma and Burns sector of Hospital de Pronto Socorro de Porto Alegre for ten years, where she performed very delicate microsurgical reconstruction procedures for limb and face restoration. At the Institute of Cardiology of Porto Alegre, she performed highly complex surgeries for chest reconstruction, which was the subject of her work as a Full Member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery.

With her Master’s Degree Thesis at UFRGS - Surgical Model for Nerve Regeneration -, she received, in 1999, the national Sirlei Rinaldi Award in Microsurgery, winning the title for Rio Grande do Sul after competing against highly recognized candidates, such as USP – University of Sao Paulo.

 

In 2000, she received a scholarship to attend the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York, USA) as a researcher in Breast Surgery and Face Surgery, focusing on advances in the treatment of skin cancer, melanomas and breast cancer. She returned to Brazil to complete her Master's Degree in Medicine at UFRGS.

 

She then returned from the USA and joined the Maxillofacial Surgery team of Dr. Edela Puricelli, at the Moinhos de Vento Hospital and at Santa Casa de Misericórdia. There, she performed microsurgical leg bone auto transplantation procedures [of the fibular bone of the leg], for the reconstruction of jawbones lost due to cancer.Angélica: Remover entre parenteses of the fibular..

 

At the same time, she improved her training in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery by actively participating in courses, congresses and symposia in Brazil and abroad, adding the evolution of surgical and non-surgical techniques for face, breasts and body contour to her portfolio.

 

Currently, she dedicates her time to her private clinic, performing surgeries at the Moinhos de Vento Hospital in Porto Alegre – RS, without neglecting her scientific and technical improvement, by attending national and international Plastic Surgery events.

 

Pioneering spirit

 

In the early 1990s, during her Master's Degree Program at the Clinical Hospital of Porto Alegre, she introduced the video surgery technique to Brazil, by performing the first endoscopic facial rejuvenation procedure using the knowledge acquired in her visit to the Emory Clinic / Atlanta, USA (1994)

 

Then, at the Moinhos de Vento Hospital, she led the acquisition of surgical material to enable the video endoscopic approach with reduced scar from abdominoplasty, which was useful for correcting the position of muscles (diastasis)este  pode deixar Angélica and hernias. For breast augmentation with silicone implants, she standardized the endoscopic axillary technique that allows greater control and prevention of hemorrhage.

Full Member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery.

Fellowship at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, with emphasis on breast and facial reconstruction, New York City, USA. Member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) since 2005.

Constant participation in the Cutting Edge Aesthetic Surgery Symposium / New York, USA, since 2000.
